Hello! If you are reading this, thanks for visiting and bare with me in the transition of getting into a flow with my blog!
First off, some back story. My husband and I have a "thing" for making up "nick names" for different things. One thing in particular that has caught on fire in our house is saying, "Man, I am hungry as a bungry!" The phrase just came out one day, mainly just out of rhyming and now it has just stuck around our household. When we are hungry and looking for something to eat it just rolls off the tongue. Just say it out-loud, "hungry bungry" it is just fun and silly to say, and it means more when you are actually hungry! "I'm Hungry Bungry" ;)
After saying it for some time, we finally had to see if it actually meant anything. Certainly we were not going to find it in a the Webster dictionary, but guess where we did find it? Urban Dictionary! So funny! We could not believe it!
Such a perfect definition! Hungry as a Bungry per Urban Dictionary: "Meaning that you are really hungry. A Bungry is a creature known for its enormous appetite."
I guess my husbands phrase that we use all the time, meant exactly what we thought!
The idea for this blog came about as my husband and I bought the domain name: www.HungryBungry.com (nothing concrete yet) and with the idea in mind that we would use Hungry Bungry as our way to blog about food, recipes, restaurants, diets, desserts, beer, world cuisines, kitchen utensils and products. The idea came to start off with this one branch of The Hungry Bungry: The Eat Clean Bungry.
This blog is my own little baby, and I am excited to start posting everything that I would like it to be! Mainly this will be my journey with Eating Clean, what clean eating means, the recipes the recommendations and how it has been changing my views around the food I buy at the grocery store to ultimately what I put in my mouth.
I have a love/hate relationship with food. I love food anytime and anywhere = big problems when trying to live healthy. I want to strive to promote optimal heath, be a role model for the people around me and living a long "healthy" life. I truly believe that you should know what you are putting in your body, what it is made out of and trying to eat closest to natural that you can, that is what clean eating is about. Simple foods and in combination can be even more amazing! Shouldn't you know what is in that "frozen meal" that you are microwaving? What are the ingredients? and can you pronounce them? Pretty scary.
Since September,I have been reading, Tosca Reno's, The Eat Clean Diet Recharged, Tocsa Reno's Your Best Body Now, as well subscribing to a two magazine called: "Clean Eating" and "Oxygen" both in which are partnered with The Eat Clean Diet and where the author, Tosca is a contributing Editor and Columnist and so amazing! Look her up, she is inspirational! The whole idea of Eating Clean is breaking up your meals to eating 6 times a day vs the traditional three per day, no waiting for five hours between meals; just keeping your body fueled and not going over board! No calorie counting, just putting wholesome food in your body with the simple guidelines: Eat a complex carb and a protein together at every meal, water water water and eat in the purest form you can. Simple right?
First off, get the prepackaged stuff out of your house and start making your meals. It doesn't matter if you are 20 or 70 years old. If you are experience or inexperienced. I am not the best cook in the world, but the only way to get better to to start. Now if you are like me, I feel like I have no time? Correct? Job, husband, workouts, kids, shopping, t.v. time? Sound familiar. I know exactly what is on your plate. However planning is key as in every situation, and I have made that my #1 Priority. Planning is what gets me in trouble with eating. Case and point: If I am hungry I want to eat now, not later. Now! If I don't have anything planned, I just got with anything that is there and pop in my mouth. Self control out the door. Bad for the diet, bad for your health and the really cute pair of jeans that are at the top of the closet (they don't fit anymore) Sad day!
So planning! That is the real key, if I plan ahead, I can't go wrong. I decided that I was going pick one of my days off during the week and make my list. Plan the meals, plan the list, plan the trip to the grocery store and then cook! I usually arrange my grocery list by areas of the grocery store. Stay far way from the middle of the store, (that is where the boxed crap food is) I arrange my list in this order: Produce, meats, dairy, and then to the Hy-Vee Health Market for my extras, like whole grains, oatmeal, couscous etc. I also make my pit-stop at Trader Joe's in West Des Moines to pick out one thing that is fun and new. Most of the food at Traders is made really well. Look at the ingredients of some of the canned or even frozen food. A lot of food is make with very few ingredients and makes easier to buy because you can see right on label what is in it! Very cool!
I truly believe that your health is 90% nutritional. No matter how much you workout, if the food is not there to fuel your body and to help you repair your muscles, to keep your endurance high or help you get healthy, than a lot of your hard work the treadmill won't pay off. I could work out all day long, but if I still ate frozen, boxed, processed food, I wouldn't be getting anywhere! I am a testament to how much food makes a difference; I having easing my self into working out, but keeping 90% of my focus on the food I am putting in my body. Happy to report 10 lbs down in less than a month, all by Eating Clean!
